2012 Feb 06 Meeting
The next Meeting of The Villages Aviation Club will be on Monday,
Feb. 6 at 7pm in the Jasmine Room of the Hibiscus Recreation
Center.

Our Guest Speaker for the evening will be Dr. Roger Sherman, MD,
AME.  Dr. Sherman is a Senior Aviation Medical Examiner (AME)
with offices in the Sharon Morse Medical Center here in the Villages.  
He will be talking about how to maintain and/or regain your Flight
Medical Certificate.  A subject very important to all of us.

Due to the increase and popularity of Aviation Navigation  
Applications (APPs) for Flight Planning and also  “in cockpit use”  
with IPADs and/or  Tablets, and the increased number of pilots  that
are now using IPADs or Tablets;  we'll have a presentation on their
use by John Balow, who uses them, primarily ForeFlight,  for his
trips back and forth to WI.  If you have an IPAD or Tablet, feel free
to bring it with you to the meeting.

Reminder:  The 2012 Dues of 5$ is now due and payable.  
 
2012 Jan 02 Minutes  
The Villages Aviation Club meeting will be on Monday January 02 at
7 PM in the Hibiscus Recreation  Center.  Our guest speaker for the
meeting will be Ernest (Garf) Cooper.  Garf was a former
"Nightstalker" pilot with the Task Force 160th., the Special
Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne).  CW4 USA Retired Ernest
(Garf) Cooper,  a former Nightstalker,  participated in a wide variety
of Special Operations assignments and from 1986 through 1992 as a
MH-60 helicopter pilot, instructor pilot, instrument examiner, test
director, program manager and platoon leader. This presentation is
focused on the Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne).  
It's mission,  history, aviator training and selection process, special
aircraft/capabilities, accomplishments and touch on future
capabilities.  
 
2011 Dec 05 Minutes
The Villages Aviation Club meeting will be on Monday December 05
at 7 PM in the Hibiscus Recreation  Center.  Our speaker will be Ex.
Army Pilot, Rich Burns, who will do a narrated audio visual
presentation about the Cessna L-19/0-1 "Bird Dog" aircraft, and his
flying experiences in the aircraft during the Vietnam War ( with
pictures and films).  Rich is a resident of The Villages and a member
of the club.  
2011 Nov 07 Minutes
The Villages Aviation Club meeting will be on Monday November 07
at 7 PM in the Hibiscus Recreation  Center.  The Speaker for the
meeting will be Eri Weaver, the managing partner of Jones Bros. & C.

2011 Oct 03 Minutes
The Villages Aviation Club meeting will be on Monday October 03 at
7 PM in the Hibiscus Recreation  Center.  The Speaker for the
meeting will be Steve Purello, CEO of Angel Flight Southeast.   
2011 Sept 16 Minutes  
The Villages Aviation Club meeting will be on Friday SEptember 16 at
7 PM in the Hibiscus Recreation  Center.  This change of date is due
to our regular meeting time falling on Labor day.
2011 June 06 Minutes
The Villages Aviation Club meeting will be on Monday June 6 at 7 PM
in the Hibiscus Recreation  Center.

Our Guest Speaker for the meeting will be Dale F. Buss, PhD.  Dale is
a retired Captain for Continental Airlines with 25 years of ATP
experience with Western / Frontier / Continental, and 27,000+
hours.  Dale is also a Villages resident.

Dale will present  a Safety Seminar entitled EFFECTIVE
COMMUNICATIONS WITH ATC,  which will include the new FAA
requirement for  “Line Up and Wait”.
2011 May 02 Minutes
The Villages Aviation Club meeting will be on Monday May 2 at 7 PM
in the Hibiscus Recreation  Center.

Our Guest Speaker for the meeting will be Troy Townsend, the COO
of  i-tec, together with their
Maverick LSA Flying Car.

I-TEC  is the Company that developed and will be producing the
Maverick LSA Flying Car in Dunnellon.   There will be a hands on
demonstration and audio visual presentation of the  Flying Car.
This will be a very interesting meeting.

2011 April 04 Minutes
The Villages Aviation Club meeting will be on Monday April 4 at 7
PM in the Hibiscus Recreation  Center.

Our guest speaker will be Tim Kirby of Coconut Flyers, LLC.  The
1941 N2S3 Stearman Grand Champion of the 2001 Sun N Fun
Antique show was restored at Tim's Coconut Flyers facility in Ocala.

Being the owner, Tim will share his experiences flying this beautiful
war bird in air shows, flybys, and films.  A pilot since the age of
sixteen, Tim makes dreams come true for many by giving rides in his
venerable war bird when he is not flying as an Airline Captain for
USAIR.  Tim will share with us the many opportunities available at
his Ocala Coconut Flyer facility

2011 March 07 Minutes
Our next Villages Aviation Club Meeting will be on Monday, March 7
at 7 PM in the Hibiscus recreation Center.

This will be the Annual Meeting and Election of Officers.

We will have 2 speakers for the evening.  Tom Wittman, Aeronaut
and Pilot of the Villages Hot Air Balloon Club will make an
audio/visual presentation on Hot Air Ballooning.  Tom and his wife
Cinda are the owner/operators of "Bums in Paradise", and own a
Hot Air Balloon operating out of Appleton WI, and The Villages.  For

William Kamm will make an audio/visual presentation of the
Ballistic Recovery Systems Small Airplane Parachute System.  This
system is installed on his Cessna 172 which he operates out of
Dunnellon Airport.  His 172 was the first to be equipped with the
Parachute System.

2011 February 07 Minutes
Our next Villages Aviation Club Meeting will be on Monday, Feb. 7 at
7 PM in the Hibiscus recreation Center.

We will have a presentation on the opportunities in Light Sport
Aviation opened up by the LSA regulations;  and also on the
CubCrafters LSA aircraft,  by John Moreland, SWT Aviation, FL.

Our Guest Speaker for the meeting will be Dr. Roger W. Sherman,
MD, AME.  Dr.  Sherman is a senior Aviation Medical Examiner

Villages. Dr. Sherman specializes in Thoracic and Cardiovascular
Surgery and Aerospace Medicine.  He is a former Air Force Flight
Surgeon, as well as a very active and experienced airplane and
helicopter Pilot and Flight Instructor.

2011 January 03 Minutes
Our next Villages Aviation Club Meeting will be on Monday, Jan. 3 at
7 PM in the Hibiscus recreation Center.

Our guest Speaker will be Karl M. Loeper.   Karl is a weather
forecaster with the Villages Radio Station, WVLG, and also a
Villages Resident.    During his career, Karl spent 5 years as an
In-Flight Meteorologist with the US Navy Hurricane Hunters
(VW-4) and was also employed at the  National Weather Service.   
Among the awards that he received during his career is the
Hurriphoon Award (Penetrating a 100 KT Hurricane at low level,
900 ft off water).
2010 December 06 Minutes
Our next Villages Aviation Club Meeting will be on Monday, Dec. 6 at
7 PM in the Hibiscus recreation Center.

The activity for the meeting will be a an audio visual presentation
entitled "Long Props and Big Rocks - Bush Landings in Alaska".

This will be presented by bush pilot George Erickson, author of the
best-seller True North: Exploring the great Wilderness by Bush
Plane and its sequel, Back to the Barrens: On the Wing with da Vinci
& Friends.

2010 November 01 Minutes
Our next Villages Aviation Club meeting will be held on Monday,
November 1 at 7PM in the Hibiscus Recreation Center.  

Our Guest Speakers for the evening will be:

Pete Fambrough;  the  “Chiropractic Pilot”, owner of Back Achers
Airport in Belleview / Candler, and Vice President of the local
chapter of the  Florida Aero club.  Pete is an  aviator extraordinaire.  
A lifelong pilot, he has a multi-engine, commercial, Instrument,
license with aerobatic, seaplane, glider, etc. ratings.

Judie Betz;  Aviation Columnist for the Daily Sun, and local chapter
President of the Florida Aero club.

As part of our next Aviation Club meeting, we will have an FAA
approved FAASTeam Safety Seminar presented by Rock Rockcastle
(A Gold Seal Master Flight Instructor) on the subject of
“Safe
Operations at Towered and Non-Towered Airports
”.   This
seminar will cover Operational  Procedures at both Towered and
Non-Towered Airports.  Please bring a pencil or pen to participate
in the Safety Quizzes.

As always, this Seminar is open to all Club Attendees, however to get
Wings accreditation for participation, attendees must pre-register
online at the FAASTeam Web Site,

Steve Wolf :

Steve and his wife, Kathy Hirtz, MD, are the owners/ operators of
WingOver Aerobatics LLC located at Leesburg Airport (LEE).

Steve is a world renowned Air Show performer and pilot with more
than 30 years experience and over 8,000 hours, mostly in aerobatic
aircraft.  Steve developed and instructed The Royal Falcons, Jordan’
s national aerobatic flying team.  

In addition to being an aerobatic pilot and performer, Kathy is also
a practicing Sports Medicine Physician here in The Villages.  Kathy
will be attending the meeting with Steve.

- Guest Speaker:      Our Speaker for the Apr 5 meeting
Rock holds a single and multiengine ATP with over 13,000 hours.  He
is a two time Gold Seal Master Flight Instructor and an FAASTeam
Leader.  (See Judy Betz’s column dated march 21, 2010)   Rock will
present an FAA approved FAASTeam Safety Seminar on the subject
of “Safe Flight”. This seminar will cover Preflight, Inflight, Arrival
and Post Flight procedures.  As always, this Seminar is open to all
Club Attendees, ho pre-register online at the FAASTeam Web Site,

2010 Feb Meeting
- Guest Speaker: George Erickson,  author of True North and a
highly sought-after aviation speaker.  The presentation will be on
"Flying Down Under", Bush Flying in Australia.  Ten Skylanes begin
in Melbourne in the south and fly NW to the Opal mines, Alice
Springs, and Ayers Rock.  Next they head to Normantown on the Gulf
of Carpentaria, then east to Cairns, before heading back to
Melbourne.
2010 Jan Minutes
- Guest Speaker:    Our Speaker for the January 4 meeting will be
Fred Geier, Col. USMC (Ret.).  
During his tenure in the USMC, Fred was Commander of a tactical
helicopter squadron and then later was the Commander of the
Presidential Helicopter Squadron HMX-1 as well as the Presidents
pilot for Presidents Reagan and Clinton.  After retiring from the
USMC, he worked for Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. as Program Director of
their Presidential Aircraft Program.  He has over 5000 hours and is
both fixed wing and rotary wing qualified (VMC / IMC )
Fred is retired and lives in The Villages.     
2009 Dec Meeting
- Guest Speaker:    Our Speaker for the December 7  meeting will be
Chuck Mosley,  Cmdr. USN  (Ret.)  and  President of All
Coast Aircraft Recovery Inc.  His company specializes in the
relocation of historic aircraft for both military and private
museums around the country.  A sampling of the many aircraft they
have dismantled, relocated, and reconstructed include:  F-84F ,
B-17C, F84F, C-130E,  C-119, F4E, Cessna Citation Mustang, and
many others too numerous to list.
Chuck will be showing a muti-media presentation showing some of
their relocation activities.

speaking on "The Do's and Dont's of Flying into a Towered Airport"

Pilot Certificate in Single and Multi-engine airplanes and a
Commercial Pilot Certificate for single engine seaplane.  He has over
13,500 total hours of which over 9,000 are in flight instruction and
an additional 6000 hours in simulator instruction. He has been a
Chief Flight Instructor for a FAR Part 141 Flight School located at
the Glenview Naval Air Station, Glenview, Illinois
